About Us
There have been millions of conflicts and battles all around the world since the beginning of the human race. Each of these battles had to take place somewhere, in most cases creating a battlefield. Historians and researchers have always worked to pinpoint the locations of battlefields throughout time, in order to learn more about the conflict and the people involved. The battles that happened in more ancient times are harder to locate because of the number of years that have passed and the lack of documented information in those eras.
However, battle sites have been located for conflicts ranging from the 10th to the 19th century, and in some cases even earlier. In most recent times, battlefields are well known and well documented with photographs and tons of information on hand about them. Battlefields from WWI are spread all across Europe, as with battlefields from WWII, which can also be found across Northern Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. In the Korean War, battlefields dominated China’s landscape and other Asian countries were scarred by various conflicts. Battles raged across Vietnam for many years in the 60’s and part of the 70’s. Battlefields came up in the Middle East during the Gulf War and are currently being created as battles occur in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Visiting a historical battlefield is the best way to get the complete experience of the battle that took place there. Many historical places offer guided walking or driving tours and at many others you are free to wander and observe the site by yourself. Most battlefields are considered “open-air museums”, meaning the whole area is one big outdoor museum. War is a horrible and painful time but the values they fought for and the rich history its battles leave behind is something for future generations to cherish throughout time.
